Ok I did some searching and coulnd't find shiat.

I have heard some anecdotal second hand information that a swap from a 22RET to a 22RE is a direcet swap. Back in the day when there were a few around most people looked for other options than rebuilding the very expensive 22RET.

I asked the Toyota god and well like all Gods I was ignored.:booo::fawkdancesmiley:

So here goes.

I have one very nice 86 Toyota x-cab SR-5 TURBO turck with a blown motor. And I have a 60K original 22RE. I have the RE down pipe, intake, intake wiring harness, computer.

Both are the same year 86 so I believe the plug count is the same. It all comes down to whether or not all the pins are an exact match to power everything that is needed.

Anyone out there that has done this swap successfully?

I sold a turbo truck to Maveric which he swaped in a 22RE and he had some kind of issue with the fuel pump and just hot wired it. But that could easily been a relay or something.

Anything FIRST HAND would be awesome. Or maybe some TRUSTED second hand info.

:eeek:

I know the injectors are different--not sure on the resistance difference.

The ecm is different...

I know I have more sitting in my head

I want to do a complete crate swap. So as long as the plugs plug in and all the pins power everything correctly the computer will know what to do.

As far as I can see. I should just have to pull the Turbo motor, intake, intake wiring harness, computer, exhaust manifold, and down pipe.

Then toss in the complete 22RE crate motor which includes, intake, intake wiring harness, computer, exhaust manifold, and down pipe. Plug the 22RE computer into the cab wiring harness and viola.

I have access to lots of parts but I want to keep the power windows and all the other stuff or I would just do a 22RE cab wiring harness swap too. Unfortunatly in all of Toyota Genius they didn't make their harness all the same. Each option is a different proprietary harness  And I WILL NEVER find a fully loaded power window 22RE harness. :booo:

And Marc I am a God to be sure. My prowess is known at all the bikini latt

how fully loaded? were PL offered too? altho, im still undecided if i wanna keep my power windows for a wheeling rig:redneck:

FULLY !!! and yes it has Power Locks.

Also I don't know if that would work since there is a significant difference between turbo and regular door pannels.

A fully loaded 88 or 89 22RE 4Runner is probably the harness I need if I were to do THAT swap. Since 88-89 4 Runners are more likely to be fully loaded and also have the "Turbo" door pannels. But who knows what else might be different because 84, 85-86 and 87-89 Toyotas have LOTS of differences in wires, plugs, fit and style of many parts.

Why couldn't Toyota have made ONE main harness with all needed extra plugs and then added "legs" as needed? It sure would make all this much easier. While I'm wishing I'd like to win the 133 Million Dollar Mega Lotto please :haha::haha:
