Im working on a 93 4runner auto with the 3.0. it had a new engine built, someone took it out and dissesmbled it, now im the guy reassembling it and trying to put it back in. i have no idea how the ps pump mounts to the engine with the ac compressor on there. anybody got any fully dressed pics? any info much appreciated

he needs a picture of how the power steering system bolts on. so if it was a complete picture of a rig that would be perfect. i believe the ps box is mounted on the passenger frame rail, and then there are ps hoses running to like an idler pump on the drivers side frame where a normal 4 cyl. box would be mounted. if someone had a picture of one complete like off your daily driver or something, he is looking to see how the box and the idler pump mount and how the hoses connect and how they are ran. im sure he'll post up if there's anything else i am just posting to help him out just off the info he told me over the phone.

i figured it all out. the toyota 3.0 is the biggest pos i have ever touched. it is such a royal bitch to do anything on, i dont envy anybody who has one. in fact if i did, id pay someone to touch it cause im never touching one again:puke:

Yep, I replaced one of the headgaskets on a 3.0. I have never seen so many vacuum lines in my life. Everything is hard to reach also. Swore I would never work on one again

Oh they're not that bad you wussies. I took one apart TWICE in one week because the first long block I got was a dud. :flipoff:

I've replaced probably a 100 head gaskets and 50 short blocks. I think they're really easy to work on. There are a shitload of short cuts and a short block+head job can be done in about 16 hours, naturally I charge 30+ hours. But, if you had some asshat work on it and tear everything apart, then that's where you get screwed. Not many people seem to hate that mechanics intuition about disassembly. Most seem to see a bolt and just instantly remove it no matter what. I love when I get a 3.0 job when a previous "mechanic" took apart the engine. I always charge full rate + about 2.0h to unfuck everything.

If I ever need work done on a 3.0, which is very unlikely because I doubt I will own another one, I will come to you.

I haven't done quite that many short blocks, but I'm right there with ya.

I like when people get the head gaskets on backwards in their driveway :looser:
Or cam caps wrong, heads/cams on the wrong side, it's funny just how much there is to screw up on a 3vze.

I have to agree with you. There is a lot to put back together wrong all the way to the turn of the ignition key. Thankfully I haven't had any of my mistakes turn into major work, yet. I've had quite a few calls from people with suspected reversed HGs. I get a couple of those a year and by the time these other "mechanics" are talking to me, they've given up on 3.0 repairs and just send the vehicle over to me. I have about 20-25 customers with 3.0s that became "former mechanics" when they popped the hood on a 3.0.

assembling the engine on the stand was easy. setting it on the rig and so forth was such a pitta. but i have no plans to touch one again. ill send em your way:awesomework:

I"ve had 2 so far with seized cams from heads being on the wrong side, and cam caps all over the place.
