toyota 3.0 question

so i have a 90 runner with a 3.0 and a automatic its been a alittle slugish sence top end rebuild at 180000 but now it wont idle at all I am wondering if o2 sensor went out but dont know how to check it stsrted out when it was cold it would do this now its all the time and when you slow down to stop at a light it dies is there and one with a tester to check this I dont have the money to take to shop shucks can only test 96 and newer any help

Is it still the old school that you just run a jumper on the dignostic port and get the codes from counting the flashes?
