okay so i have yet to tear my front end apart but i know that something is broken in my front axle, i have a full detroit in the front with longfeilds so one side spins and the other side doesn't it just makes like a ratcheting sounds when i lock the hub in and spin the tire?:eeek: :booo: :masturbanana[1]:

Congrats you now have a $450 paper weight. I think it was northridge 4x that could get parts for them... Or maybe it was aventeone... Someone could do it I know that...

if thats the case i have a pair of $450 paper weights because they are both acting up. i haven't torn into the one that i have out yet... :masturbanana[1]:

Yota detroits have no warranty if you break an axle for a reason... They suck. :haha: Best bet is to see if you lucked out and you can fix one with parts from the other.

does anyone have any experience in taking a full detroit apart? i am not sure what to expect? do i just take out all the allen heads and split the two halves or is it more complicated then that? thanks

james

The preferred method is a piece of allthread /w a large washer and nut on each end. Unbolt the case halves, then slowly pull it apart. There is a large spring inside and if you just unbolt it and aren't prepared, it will pop apart and pieces go everywhere :)

And yes, I can get you parts for it.

I just clamped mine in a vise and removed the bolts then let the vise loose. They are pretty damn simple, but if you broke a shaft its pretty common to break a side gear in the locker. Too bad they don't make a 300m detroit locker.

You can get them from detriot out of poland.[/QUOTE]

Only if you have an in, they don't offer replacement part's to the public 99% of the time, if they'll warranty the whole locker is the only way your getting fixed. As far as I know, very few people can get part's (us being one of them) we get clutch and hold out ring's for broken detroit's pretty often. Don't be overwhelmed, there's only like 9 or so part's inside a detroit locker. I just pull the bolt's and hold it together between my hand and a bench, it doesn't take much pressure to put it back together either. I don't like the all thread method because thing's have to line up on the way back together and if I'm not doing it by hand I can't feel if it's all good.

too much for junk to break and not get parts for. is it a fluke that the most expensive non selectable locker is not serviceable (available parts). I dont run one for that reason. actually I just lied. my front rockwell has one. hope I never break it:mad: . oh well I got it for free.

Other than getting parts from me, some dealers do sell service parts. The problem is that some dealers just don't like the hassle. Tom's Differentials sells and stocks a bunch of parts.

Darius mentioned not liking the all-thread way of assembly. Using all-thread is far easier than any other method. If you have cleaned and dried all the internal parts, you use grease to hold pieces in place. I can usually disassemble and reassemble a Detroit in about 30 mins.

PM me for parts.
