occasionally, my front end makes a kind of growling noise. it only happens when my hubs are locked in and i am in 4wd. it sounds like it is coming from the left side. i was told that there is a pin that goes thru the u-joints on my tront driveline from the t-case to the diff, and when that pin breaks, it can make that kind of noise. i yanked on the driveline, and there didnt seem to be much play, and i was told that if it had broken, i would definitely be able to feel it. any ideas on what this could be?

:wtf: HUH?!?! Whoever told you that was smoking crack. Still IFS? Most likely the brass bushing in the steering knuckle that supports the stub shaft is worn. Try grabbing the outer CV and see if it has any play.

well, i wiggled the CV shaft, and there is definitely some play on the hub side. is this serious? should i not be wheeling this untill i get whatever it is fixed?

It's a brass bushing, it'll just get looser. I'd consider it an "as soon as you're able to" deal. Don't let it go for too long. Check on 4x4wire, I believe they have a writeup including part #'s for the version you have and the updated needle bearing style.

is that "it'll just get looser no matter what" or "it'll just get looser, but only when your hubs are dialed in or your in 4wd"?

They wear when that shaft turns. Leave the hubs unlocked and stay in 2wd, you can drive it til it falls apart and they won't get any worse. Depends on how soon you want to do your axle swap too, I'm sure you could probably get away wtih a few more runs without killing it. Not something I can judge and say go/nogo to over the web, sorry. All I can say for sure is it's not supposed to be like that.

my sons toy does the same thing on his. we found that the cv shaft was bad...
That is another possibility, did you grab the "cup" itself or the shaft in the middle of the two CV's?

what? maybe you can look at it when i come out to get those wheels. i dont really know much about front ends.

Sure thing. Easier to explain in person than here.
