Can you wire the fuel pump straight to a switch/battrey ???

Well it burn the pump up?? Cause I wired mine to a switch and ran fine . Then went to start truck and fuel pump didn't come on . Replaced switch then check pump and pump is now bad !

was it on a ground side switch? "toyota pump" is pretty vague

Not sure the switch has 3 places power , acc., ground . So I went from batt. To swicth . Switch to pump , grounded the switch in the cab and grounded the pump ground to frame ... Hope this make since . I'm new at this
