I was wondering if there is a strength diffrence in the 4 cylinder rear axle, v6 rear axle, and 4 cylinder IFS axle? If so is the strength any diffrent is one better than the other etc.

I know that since the V6 didn't start until after IFS, and that the IFS rear axles are some 2 inches wider IIRC. so you'd have the bonus of being more stable due to wider track width, but if you match up an IFS rear axle you should use spacers up front or rims with more backspacing so you dont get all wiggly in the rear.

actual axle strengths? I have never owned a pre 86 rear diff, but the ifs 4 and 6 cylinders diffs use the same axle shafts.

as far as housings go the later ifs diff housings are stronger with larger tubes.

Yes what he said:awesomework:

How much later? Which year did they start getting stronger? I am going to pick one up as soon as I find out which one is best..

The V6 thirds are a bit stronger. They have more ribbing (for pleasure:D ) on the outside and I believe the pinion bearings are larger
