Wanting to get a winch for my trailers and also to use on the back of my truck for hunting season. Between the smittybuilt 10k and the habor freight badlands 12k right because of price and honestly it won't be used all that much. Anyone running either of these on their trailer? I had a smittybuilt 8k on a crawler and it was alright especially for the money.

Re: Re: Trailer winch

Can't go wrong with a smittybilt xrc8.

Used one on my old Cherokee and currently running the newer x20 8...thier waterproof version.

Very VERY impressed! !! Line speed is crazy fast.....free spool is like no tension at all. Uses the same solenoid's that an older Warn Tabor winch i had uses. Hell...uses same winch controller.

You should also look at the harbor freight winches for this. I think that's what's on my trailer. My dad has a champion brand he bought at Sams Club. Never had problems. They are slow, but who cares.

If you use HF Winches either shorten the cable or use rope, they bind up and break the top braces that hold the winch together...not always but just sayin

Smittybuilt XRC 9500. $300 new with free shipping. Fast and strong.

I have a Champion I picked up from Sam's Club for like $350. Its a 10k lb and has been good for last 4 years. I have a few friends that have these also and no problems as of yet.

Buddy of mine has a hf winch I think it's the badland 13k on the front of his duramax and it didn't impress me not one bit

I use a badlands 12k on my trailer. Took the cable off and put an old winch rope on instead and it works great....especially for the 299 I paid for it. Worth the xtra 30 bucks for the wireless remote too...
