Would like to get some input on what's really worth the money.

I installed a TH350 in my TJ and trying to figure out what would be the best TC. My gut tells me to just go with a Chevy 241C and be done with it. But, if I look at adding the sye kit to it and a driveline brake plus an adapter to mount it to the th350 I'm pushing around $1100 to $1200. With that kind of money I start thinking maybe a doubler would be the way to but, then it seems like most of the people I talk to that have doublers run them in the original gears about 80% of the time and only use the lower gears every once in a while. So, I'm at a crossroad here and would like to hear some opinions.

Re: Re: Tranfer Case Question

Why do you need/want a driveline brake, and how much are you budgeting for an adapter?

Pretty sure you can put a 241 behind a th350 with a factory adapter. Since 241s came behind 700r4 and 4l60

I put disc brakes on the rear axle and lost my emergency brakes.

The th350 has a shorter output shaft than the 700r4 and 4l60 so it takes a shorter adapter.

You want to stick with a gear drive transfer if possible. Nothing wrong with most of the chaindrive cases for standard wheeling but if you want to upgrade then you need a gear to gear transfer case. That limits you to 205, atlas, D300, D20. For what you are doing I believe the 300 would be a good choice. There are plenty of adapters to put it behind the 350, it can be flipped to be a dirver drop and there are plenty of them out there. A ford 205 would also be a good choice. It is stronger than the 300 but larger and heavier. They are also plentiful, the right side drop , but will likely cost more than the 300 to put together. I would believe you could do either one from start to finish for less than $1000. The atlas will be a little more but you should be able to find one that will be a bolt in affair from someone that already had it bolted to a Th350. All of them will require a new cross member, drive shaft length changes, and probably u-joint revisions as well.

If you are still running a drivers drop front axle. Your options for a gear drive case are Atlas, Dana 300, Ford Np205.
You can get a factory 700r4 to Np241 adapter. Flip a dana 300 and bolt them together. You will need a spud shaft from Advanced Adapters to spline the TH350's 27 spline male output to the Dana 300's 23 spline female input.
Atlas works the best but is $$$$$
Ford NP205 will required a aftermarket adapter and shaft but is very strong.
Trailer queen or street driven? I run a NP231/Dana 300 doubler behind a Chevy 5.7/TH350. The 300 is flipped for driver drop. Nothing extra done to the 300 except moving the vent on the rear output. NO leaks.
Yeah I get to use the doubler about twice a year = waste of $$ behind a V8. :****:

If you don't mind a chain drive case. I would go the 700r4 adapter to a chevy 241 bolt it together and rock out.

What gears you have in your axles matter also.A 205 is the way to go if you can pull the higher gear. It lugs down rigs that don't have a lot of power or gears sometimes tho.And the ford 205's will have the big output shafts already. Traveler on here could hook you up on a new adapter cheaper than anywhere else.

NP 205 would go great with that combo in my opinion.
Here is a pic of the TH350-700r4/NP208 factory adapter and a Dana 300 flipped. Kinda needs a clocking ring , very tight in the shifter area but it fits.

Well, I'm sure I will never find an atlas for less than $1200, so that pretty much narrows it down to the np205 or d300. I guess I need to do some shopping around and see what I come up with.

Again, thanks for the info,

Well, it looks like a may have found an ford np205 here local for $150. I sent traveler a message to see what he will charge to make an adapter. I see that AA makes an adapter kit, but it ain't cheap!

Bringing a thread from the dead up rustyc I was wonderin what alxe you have and if you was able to have one peace driveshaft or if you had to use a carrier because shaft was to close to tranny how did you route your tranny shifter cable any finshed pics

That setup in the pic is in my rear engine buggy. Here is a link to the build thread. (http://www.hardlinecrawlers.com/forums/index.php?topic=30220.0)
What is normally the front output of the D300 now goes to my rear axle, it uses a one piece shaft but it 2" OD and still very tight.

I think a once piece shaft would still be possible in a front engine but the axle would probably need to be full width and the engine,trans,t-case offset in the chassis to make it work.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I came across a good deal on a Stak 3 speed case with 5.22, 3.29, and 1.1 ratios. Heard mixed reviews so
figured this thread could answer some questions.
