My NP205 has a wicked rattle when in low range and the front axle is engaged and coasting. Sounds like the front drive shaft is coming through the floor.
No rattle under acceleration. I can run in RWD low or in high range and it's fine.

My last Rockwell buggy had a NP242 in a NP232 case and it did the same thing.

Is this normal as I have heard? Is it a pinion brake thing causing it?

Any help is appreciated. I just don't want to tear up anything...

Mine does it too ford 205 with rockwells had the same coast rattle ever since I went to rockwells that's been back in 1998 never had any t-case issues broke ALOT of rockwell shafts over the years but still the same old 205. Maybe I've had good luck but every rockwell rig I've been around they have all made noise.

It is likely the result of the "play" in the rockwell third member unless you have a bonified bearing problem in the 205. A "tight" rockwell third still has a 1/4 turn of play in terms of the gears.

mine does the same thing and has been that way for 4 years...i always wondered wtf it was but nothin has exploded or fallin out so i just keep :driving:
