Transfer case help

We have this old chevy at the shop and we are only getting high and low range in 2wd is this set up right or what's goin on

That is a NP203. It is an all wheel drive case. From the factory there is no 2wd option, it has a center differential. It could possibly have a part time conversion kit in it though. Best way to tell is if it has locking hubs on the front axle it has probably been converted. How do you know it is only getting 2wd high and low?
 
Those 203 shifters have gates inside them that make em shift both levers. They are notorious for getting dirty or outta whack & only shifting one of the two levers. Get someone to shift it while u watch to see if it is actually shifting both levers at the transfer case. If it's not moving one u can unhook it & manually engage that one & it should lock the front. Then u can either rebuild the shifter or twin stick it. A 203 spins the end with the least resistance if it hasn't had a part time kit put in it. Like an open diff.
