Whats the best Transmission cooler to get? Going to have to order one pretty soon. Any one like one better than the other. I prefer it to have a fan also.

I have one from B&M I think. It is a nice compact unit with an adjustable thermastat. I lost a fitting on it recently but that is due to the hard lines more than anything

Im running one of these for my steering and one from my tranny... works nice thumb.gif

I would go with a B&M or similar Stacked Plate design, they will cool better than a tube and fin. Getting one with or without a fan is up to you, but personally I think its overkill to have one with a fan, just takes up more room, more **** to go wrong, (fan motor, blades etc) and increases amp draw on your electronics.

I like the coolers with the fan so you can keep it away from the radiator. I'm gonna try to mount the one on the buggy we're building right now underneath the cargo area in back. It'll keep the hoses shorter since I won't have to go all the way up front.

you have to have one. but dang...mine is mounted horizontal under my fuelcell in the back of my buggy/ and that damn fan is loud as ****.
with the engine running, and that fan running it is just loud inside mine.

On my FJ40 buggy I ran a B and M with its own fan. That was the only way I could keep the tranny cool.

This buggy I was having cooling issues in the tranny. Engine would be at 150* and the tranny would get 220-230 and never cool down. That is with the internal Ron Davis tranny cooler (in front radiator)

I decided that something must be wrong when I was in Colorado and coasting down the mountain I still had high tranny temps.

When I got home I ordered some Painless Plastic Heat tape and wrapped all of the return lines that ran next to the exhaust and then the sending unit (that was 1" from the muffler) and now I don't get the temps that I was generating. Even when I do work it now, it will cool back down.

What I am saying is that I think the tranny cooler in the Ron Davis radiator will do the job. It did not in my past buggies, but then again, this Ron Davis is the cat's ass.

I will let you know on the 25th of October after my Katemcy trip what the final verdict is.

Those coolers that run through the radiator are garbage IMO, not to mention they aint cheap.

Again, in my past experience, I would agree, but this Ron Davis unit seems to be working.

I have no place I could put a separate fanned cooler on mine without it getting whacked or without putting 25' of tranny line in the buggy.

I am hoping I was just getting a false signal.

BTW, most folks don't run tranny gauges and just hope for the best. I have always run them and have been more anal about it that I should. Synthetics and the fact that even though we get them hot as hell, we are not pulling any weight and it is usually not for a long period of time. A well built tranny should put up with a lot of heat spikes as long as you don't fry the fluid.
