Truck dies at random times..

So my 84 runner has been sitting for over a week and I went to drive it today it it dies as I was driving. When I tried to start it back up it was hard to start and was popping smoke out of the air filter housing. Now my thought was I possibly have air in my fuel line from it sitting. It did something like this before but when it happened before it would not stay running unless I held my foot on the gas. So any thoughts?

lean misfire will back fire through the a/f.or timing issue (chain,wire,etc) probably lack of fuel problem.

I am leaning toward fuel because when it runs it runs great and this has only happened twice and it happened on a warm day.
