im curious as to how many people here have had to change a u joint on a DANA 44, etheir in the shop or on the trail.

It looked like it is a pain in the ass no matter where u are, looked like they are hard to get to and that u actually have to take the axle apart.
So please anyone with any experience changing a u-joint on a TTB Dana 44, let me know what was involved.

On what the outers or the middle? The middle can be done with a C style screw press.. Outers are the same as any other 4x4. Pull the spindle, pull the shaft.

Othewise to do the middle out of the truck you have to pull the front diff pig out of the beam to take the e-clip off the passenger side shaft so it can come out of the diff.

well personally i dont want any of them to go out... :P

But this isnt a perfect world, if one went id want it to be the driveline u joint, but relalisticly what one is stronger the outer u joint, the middle u joint, or the driveline u joints?

Depends. On the throttle with the wheels turned, can take out a wheel joint. In 4x4 jumping the truck, if the front suspension droops enough to bind the center joint they ususaly blow the yokes apart... The driveshaft uses the same size u joint as the front axles do...

thanks totalled, i beleive im pretty easy on the pedal when it comes to getting over stuff, i can kind of be a lead foot when it comes to hill climbs though...
