Tube VS Pipe

Thinkin about building an exo cage for my truck and I was wondering what the down sides of pipe are.

Last time I checked, buying new schedule 80 pipe (rated for structural applications like stage rigging and stuff) was more expensive than DOM tube.

Theres TONS of threads that debate this topic on other forums if you search for it. Theres even a guy who built a cage out of pipe, then purposely flopped it to see what would happen.

You ever watch 4-Lo? The part where I'm pulling a section of pipe cage back out when he slowly bound up the side of the cage on a rock so he could sit back in his seat should say it all.

That is my favorite part. Sometimes I just put 4lo in, watch that part, and then turn it off.

But seriously, has anyone seen that article in Petersens that has a "garage test" of the different cage building materials? I'm gonna e-mail them today and see if I can find it.

It does a shop test of all types of tube from poop pipe all the way to 4340 alloy. Pretty good read.

For a cage I'd say no less than 1-1/2" .180 wall, it could be your life.....

.120 wall is pretty common for DOM cages. Size is really up to you, somewhere in the 1.5" - 2" range :flipoff:

use which one u want but I think poor design/construction will fawk up the best double throw me down chromo that u can buy. Good design/construction will make more of a difference then wether its chromo/DOM/pipe. Just my $.02. :kiss:
