First off I have heard some good/ bad on 40 spline spindles for dana 60 front axles. I cant seem to filter it all out.

Where is the best place and what do I need to look for...

Second. I understand I have to machining the stock hubs does any one have the specs on exactly what to do there?

Wide Open Design has the whole setup figured out with a chromoly spindle. I'm running the setup on WFO and it is doing great.

I see they have the solid ones I know their forged but are they chromoly?

They have the Solids but they are not the chromoly spindles. They also use a heavier hub than the Solid. Call the shop and ask for Rocky, he can get you set up and keep Internet confusion out of the deal.
