Re: Re: Upside down t-case

The oil pump on a chain drive case needs to be submerged in oil.
And the breather need to be on the top side

Otherwise it'll work fine

I run flipped Dana 300s in both my rigs. No issues after new seals and breather relocation.
Like stated above the 231 case from the S10 will not work flipped, the rear bearings will starve for oil.

I run a 231 4:1 Tera low that is notorious for blowin planetary carriers. After I smoked a couple, it got me thinkin that when we wheel we are always at crazy angles and climbing so the fluid collects at the back of the t case away from the low planet, nose of the main shaft and input bearing. Even when the small pump is submerged it physically can't pump enough fluid volume up to the planet to cool and lubricate. Plus it only holds like 3oz of fluid, lol. Soooo......on my last planet swap I pulled the 4wd detent switch right above the rooster comb at the t case shift linkage. I filled my case up to the top of that hole so no matter what angle I was running EVERYTHING inside stayed submerged.

I made only 2 runs a piece on my last 2 planets. I'm on run number 7 now with red labels.

So I guess I wrote you a book because I think you could flip it, plug the vent then drill another hole on the new topside for another vent. I also think if it were me doin all that work, I'd drill and tap another hole lower than the new vent and use a pipe thread plug and fill my t case to the brim from there.
That way nothin starves for fluid.
