So with Christmas coming up I would assume used parts would start popping up on here and on Craigslist. So I've been keeping an eye out for good deals. It seems like people are either over valuing there junk or pricing it high. In order to negotiate. In your perfessional opinions what is reasonable price for used equipment? I understand some things come at a premium if they are used or new. Like coil overs, sticky tires, hp Dana 60....
But I would assume a percentage scale could be implicated in the majority of situations.
If someone says make offer on used equipment I look it up new and value it at 50% give or take 15%.
Am I just a cheap ass or am I missing something?
I called a member of this forum 3 times (left 2 messages) then offered him a $100 dollar bill and was in his town so I could meet at his home or loc of his choice. On an item that sells new for $188 shipped to my door. His reply was let me call you back. Then texted he couldn't go any lower then $180.

So my question is what do you value used equipment at?

Dunno.

It's according to what it is.

Can't really set a % on something... It's just too condition dependent.

I've bought air shocks for dirt cheap that were leaking or had bent shafts... but I've also gave near new prices for parts that were "used" for mock up or the like.

Now, when I sell NEW ****, like actually NEW. I'll normally only sell it for what I've got in it, unless I have a reason to dump it quick.

I'm trying to sell a new BentFab chassis for $700 less than I paid for it, only because it's been sitting in the shop for almost 2 years and I really don't know that I'll ever build it. And I think that when I get ready to build a buggy, I want to build a 4 seater anyway.

I think a lot of it has to do with the demand for the product. like you said, if it is a highly sought after item in good shape it will pull close to retail in good shape..
when I sell stuff I try to be reasonable and never charge more than I would expect to pay for an item. but asking $10 less for what an item cost new shipped to the door (especially when you have to go pick it up) isn't gonna happen. for me at least

I have been lucky lately ( a lot or really good deals right here during the holidays).
In the last 2 months ive picked up a hi pinion 60 housing, rcvs and ori's.. I knew they would go fast so I Jumped on them and I think between the 3 I paid within $100 total less than asking price

Everything is worth what someone is willing to give you at that moment in time. It may not be worth a damn to you right now, but worth a fortune to me because I need it that bad!!! JMHO
