Seems to be getting pretty popular. Got a Friend who is racing a RZR in KOH this year and it has got me thinking of buying a totaled out UTV and building a RACE UTV. RZR, TERYX....or whatever I can find.

Its got to be easy to find some sponsors in a market that isnt flooded with UTV racers. Could probably build a real nice rig for around 15k unless I got a lot of sponsor help.... Its got to be cheaper than trying to race in KOH. I dont have 100k to throw down on a buggy. And it would still be fun for a weekend run. :driving:

Finding sponsors as a Media person has got to be a little easier as well. I mean I can guarantee that their logos and products will make it into the media no matter how slow I am or how many races I win....Because I can put it there myself.........

IVE GOT THE GO FAST ITCH.......
this could get expensive :****:

im sure it would be a lotta fun....but you dont have to spend $100k on a KOH rig

heck i looked at a $10k buggy Friday that ran the LCQ :****: .... being competitive with big names for under $40k would be tough in the go fast sections

same thing for the UTVs im sure, you can race for a minimum amount of cash, to win it would take a lil more luck than the guys with all the bling

I am not so much concerned with winning the UTV KOH Race. I would just want to be competitive and win some local east coast UTV races as they get to be more and more popular.

There is some truth in this. With first hand experience in KOH I will say that more than anything it all about having a rig dialed in. The West coast guys have the advantage in the desert part of the race. They are able to put hundreds, and in some cases thousands of miles on their rigs getting them sorted out. But the race has always proven to not be won in the desert, so you can fly through the desert and lose all of that ground in the rocks. My car for 2010 was NOT a desert car, but it would eat up the rock sections. I had plenty of people pass me but I either caught up to them because they were overheating from all of the high speed or I caught up to them in the rocks, and in several cases passed them in the rocks. You have to have a good balance, you need speed in the desert, but you also have to be able to hold your own in the rocks. You do not have to spend $100k to be competitive, you just have to show up with a car that is dialed in and that has been triple checked and anything that is questionable be replaced with a new part.

and I'll add, dont pre-run the course in your race car unless you plan on re-prepping it before raceday.
