Vacuum pump

I will be doing mine very soon. Mine has a been leaving a small trail lately. I can let you borrow mine if you want to practice before you do yours.:beer:

Has anyone done a rebuild with this kit http://www.fixinrams.com/id21.html Mine has been leaking & I need to get it fixed. Dodge wants $2300 for a new one & to put it in.

It's leaking oil or is the pump FUBAR?

Mine was leaking from the seal towards the front of the motor where it plugs into the "timing gear cover" (or whatever it's called). I had the dealer fix it for a couple of hundred.

Its leaking oil just in front of the res. I was told if you replace just the seal it will probably leak again, that it was better to just replace the pump. The pump is $550 from Napa. This is a rebuild kit for the pump, they say its real easy to do just a pita to get it out of the truck. 4-5 hr job

Dodge wanted $650 to just replace the seal, witch is $7

all of the seals for the power steering and vacuum pumps are 7 bucks I have been told. from cummins.. And it is only two bolts (Or nuts, can't remember) to get both units off the back of the gear case... dissasemble both pumps. replace the seals, and you should be good to go.

You're sure it's the vac/ps pump seal at the back of the gear case cover? On these Cummins, in the same area, the inner timing case gasket is also known to leak oil; MAJOR PITA TO REPAIR on the 12v;

Yeah, it was the seal in the Vac pump. I was able to get under the truck & see where it was comeing from.

That requires you to take the cam out.. I just put some RTV around it :redneck:
