when I bought my jeep it was supposed to have a th400 with a reverse manuel valve body but it turns out that it is a standard manuel valve body. What all would be involved in changing it to a reverse manuel valve body? Would it be as easy as just dropping the pan and swapping the valve body or is it more involved than that? I have never taken a transmission apart so I am trying to decide if it would be somthing I could myself or would I need to pull it and take it to a transmission shop.

Hughes sells one that goes in from the bottom. I put one in mine, reverse manual. Seems like it was about 4or5 hundred dollars

It's pretty simple. Drop the pan, remove detent and linkage from shift rail, remove filter and the bolts, take a fluid bath when removing the old valve body. Install new one and torque bolts to like 110 inch pounds. Reverse all other steps and viola. Hardest part is letting go of 500$ just to have your pattern backwards.

Seems a little expensive to just reverse the shift pattern. I'll probably just leave it alone for right now. Thanks for the response guys

Where are you getting these prices? They were around $250 for forward and reverse valve body's when I was looking at them on summit racing.

That's still a lot of money to simply reverse the pattern seeing he already has a full manual valve body.

I agree. I need a manual forward shift for mine and now that I'm looking at them again, I see that they have the same brand with the same features listed from 200-400. What makes the $400 one better? What am I missing here?

I would just modify your shifter however you need to to be able to get to reverse quickly. I have a full manual forward pattern **** kit in mine and just made a custom gate for my Winters shifter. I can get to reverse faster than any RMVB can.

Compression braking. The cheaper ones don't have it generally. If you're not on the gas and just coasting its like the trans is in neutral until you hit the gas again.
