I'm by no means a super tech guy but I can figure out a smartphone..... set up a printer and diagnose random stuff. Mainly I just figure out what doesn't work and then by process of elimination it starts working.

I recently went into the local US Cellular store about a concern on my bill and when it was figured out I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to the new Galaxy S 7 from San 5. I like new stuff and he offered me a deal around 60 bucks and I figured why not.

So while all this was going on I saw one of these virtual reality headsets on the back wall and asked him what the deal was.

Hey seemed to be more of a tech guy and he said that it was pretty cool you should try it ...so I did.

I will just summarize it by saying that it was ****ing awesome. They had some preloaded underwater driving and flying and race car stuff on there and it was almost nauseous but not really because it was just so damn cool.

Everywhere you look there was something new and different and it just almost made you fall out of reality.

The first and most important use I could think at of this thing was for me to mount a camera on the headrest passenger side of the buggy and film me doing off road stuff and letting my mom see it when I got back on the viewer.

Maybe it's just me but I think I posted up 3d video on here not long ago and it absolutely blew me away... this virtual reality headset through me on the floor and drug me through a blender.

If any of you get a chance to try one of these I highly recommend it... they're only $100 and I'm really thinking of buying one just so I can really share videos with my family from a passenger experience.

Yes..you'll need a 360* camera for it to work. But still...

I listen to the Joe Rogan Experience podcast at work, he talks about it all the time. One of his thoughts is that someday VR will allow you to have nearly lifelike experiences, including all of your body sensory, that many people will become lost in that realm and no longer want to experience real life. I don't play video games, but the people that I know that do are so into it, like deep into it. I think Joes comments on VR aren't all that far fetched. Enter the Matrix.

Wasn't there a movie like that? I think the people were basically on life support machines but were "living" in fabricated artificial reality. :dunno:

I think that's 100% accurate.

I bet I could Virtual Reality build a PLOWBOY a lot cheaper than actually building one and wheeling it. ;)

I've been trying to research these head-units as best I can because I'm really near the purchase point. There's some for like 15 bucks and made of cardboard, some that are a lil bulky in the 50$ range and then the Samsung unit for 100 bucks. The reviews are decent on the lower two.....but the ones for the Samsung are out of this world great.

Surrogates.
Ah yes, that's probably what I'm thinking about.

I think one of the things that will hold vr back from being a truly real experience is the lack of fatigue. Imagine running for miles and miles meanwhile your breathing and pulse remain at a resting state. But I know I've spent more than $100 on things that were probably a lot less of an interesting or fulfilling experience.

Really in today's society?? I would think that would be a marketing PLUS! LOL

Ride the Tour De France and never break a sweat, climb Mt. Everest without the O2 deprivation, Swim the English Channel without drowning.... Never have to leave your couch and continue to stuff Cheetos down your gullet!!! In fact...maybe I should open up a food delivery service...shut ins are going to be all the rage!!!

The thought of what's to come is very sad. I think we are nearing the point of no return. Think about how weak our country will become when everyone just sits on their asses and gets fatter and lazier. The poor countries in the world with machine guns will be able to run over us. Think about how weak people in general have gotten with the increasing technology. How many kids can ride a ****ing bicycle several miles like we did when we were kids. Hell I still can. They have some serious thumb control through. We're screwed.

Pretty much. All in teh name of progress. I'm a ****, I don't let my boy have video games. He turned 7 yesterday and shoots a bow and arrow and a bb gun. He needs new rear bike tires all the time and can outjump all his older friends on bikes from the amount of practice he has. His birthday party was a nerf party with 25 6 foot tables sat up with sheets on them in a 35 x 50 room, 20 kids and everybody battle it out. It was badass, no fawking video game party, inside sit on your ass bullshit. I hate it for the kids that never get the chance to live outside and get some scrapes on them.

The movie "gamer" has a bunch of that type of stuff too. I'm sure it's not far off.

I don't have kids so I might not know what I'm talking about or maybe it's easier said then done but I would be willing to spend 2x as much or more on **** my kids could enjoy outside before I'd buy them video games.

A lot of it is laziness on all parts. Know what's easier than taking your kid to the park (assuming you don't live on a farm) to let them ride their bike? Here, sit in front of the stupid box and dumb yourself down
Time is a tough one too. I work a shitload of hours most times so it is hard to break away to spend time with kids. Again, I'm on a farm/fab shop so he can just play outside while I work. Very different situation than most

Yes sir.. Parents are just as guilty.. Its much easier to just send them to their room to play a game than to get their ass up and be involved. It can be hard to find time but, its something every parent should do. I`ve got a younger brother that is completely ruined by games. Seriously. Many cousins I have are ****ed as well. No kinda common sense to the outside world. I have two little girls that absolutely live outside. I have them old Honda 70 4 wheelers that they beat to death. Bikes, playhouse, pool, regular kid ****. Only game console in my house is a Wii that they play Just Dance on when its raining out side. That's actually kinda entertaining watching them. Parents need to get up and Get Involved.!!
