• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

Web-Wheelin' Rig

hahaha.. have fun...

I just got finished building my new web-wheeler here a little bit ago...

not much out there faster.

Cut my photo/video processing time by about 60%... and i haven't even over-clocked it yet to 'push it' further.

yeah... i'm a computer geek too.. :haha:

Ok, so this is what my nightmare looks like....pretty tame so far...
IMG_9180Medium.jpg

Then I open the boxes...

All the goodies for the inside:
-Windows 7 64bit home
-Intel I5 750 Processor
-Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Motherboard
-MSI N250GTS TwinFrozr 1G OC GeForce video card
-GSkill Ripjaws 2x2GB memory
-2x 500gb WD HD's
-Antec PSU 750w 80 plus
-misc. other goodies.
IMG_9185Medium.jpg

And the Container to store all the goodies. :awesomework:
Antec Three hundred Illusion case:
IMG_9188Medium.jpg

So I set to work friday night putting it together, slowly.
IMG_9192Medium.jpg

The case has 4 incl. fans.
IMG_9193Medium.jpg

I started by "thoroughly" reading the instructions for "most" of the parts i have picked up. :haha:

Then I set all the MB posts and put it in place and bolted it down.
IMG_9198Medium.jpg

Processor installed.
IMG_9211Medium.jpg

The art....it speaks to me...*snaps fingers*.
IMG_9213Medium.jpg

So after some very thorough prep/tint/clean/purify/paste for the CPU, I placed the heatsink/fan setup on it. I might upgrade this as everything I read says the stock heatsink is weak.
IMG_9226Medium.jpg

Next it was onto the graphics/memory. I almost wish the box was clear so i could show of the cool stuff inside!
IMG_9230Medium.jpg

IMG_9235Medium.jpg

Installed:
IMG_9236Medium.jpg

And now this is where i currently sit. Power Supply installed and all the wiring to be done...My least favorite thing to do in the whole world.
IMG_9247Medium.jpg

So this is where i hope so trickiness on my part comes into play, the two front fans cover 6 HD slots, I plan to put my HDs in the very middle two slots, i might change this once everything is hooked up, but my thought it this will channel some of the air up past the top of the graphics card and across the main portion of the MB while the lower fans will eventually do the same.
IMG_9251Medium.jpg

Here you can kinda see what i'm trying to acheive, the second HD will go below the installed one. :eeek:
IMG_9255Medium.jpg

And please yell at me if you see i'm doing something stupid. :D

You say you may change the heatsink/fan combo in the future because you hear it's weak?

Um, if you feel that way, I'd change it now. No sense in finding you've just blown that money frying your processor because of a weak heatsink/fan combo.

Just a thought.

Like the number of fans. Wondering if you considered fluid cooled? Heck, does anyone make those anymore?

Now is the best time to install your new heatsink for The CPU..

I personally run the Corsair H50 (google it) they are reasonably priced and keeps my Intel Core i7-980x idling at 22c and when I am overclocked at 4.4GHz (for benchmark scores) and running Prime95 (100% CPU load) it keeps it cool to 65c.

The H50 is a really great self-enclosed water cooling system for the CPU.

I dont think i'm gonna go with a water-cooled setup. something about water and electronics makes me cringed. :redneck:

I am gonna look into a larger cooler though.

So I started the wiring....sorta....

I got the front lights/switches plugged into the board. I got my 2nd HD in the mail, so that went in as well. I need a 3rd SATA cable though for the DVD burner. And I'm not certain if i just plug it into the 3rd SATA connection below the two HDs on the motherboard. :eeek: I'm a little confused with that.
IMG_9286.jpg

Also, these 3 connections, I think they go in at the bottom of the board, but i dont know. Don't laugh, wiring is my weak point. :booo: I have tried to learn as little as possible about wiring over the years. :redneck:

IMG_9289.jpg

I think this is where they go, above the PSU in the two blue and one white spots...
IMG_9287.jpg

Yes, that is where they go. It should say somewhere that one goes in one spot while the other goes in the other. Like the system board directions :awesomework:

Don't get them mixed up cuz then they won't work right.

Anyway, they don't use actual water in liquid cooled systems. They use mineral oil. You can submerge your system board in that stuff and it won't short out.

those look like the USB front panel connectors if so they go to the 2 blue 1 white connectors

Labeled F_USB1/F_USB2/F_UBS3

but this is just a guess off the top of my head so don't listen to me...

that connector is for front panel audio jacks..

one plug is for HD audio and the other is for AC '97 format audio...

most modern boards today are defaulted in the bios as HD audio.

you can use either that you want (if you want to use any) and just make sure the setting in the bios matches the plug you use.

as for a SATA cable, if you need some.. I think I have about 50 or so laying around.

If you want a bit better air cooler too, I do have the one off of my intel i7-980x just sitting here in the box not being used..

since I use the Corsair H50.. it rocks! no need for any air coolers on my CPU.

the plug that is sitting above the other in the picture looks to be an external USB connetor as long as your case has that. (it looks like it did)

make sure that the USB plug goes onto a USB connector and not a firewire connector onthe motherboard (they look really similar and the plugs will go onto them) if you plug a USB device to that jumper it will short out the motherboard and then damage it. Just look at the markings carefully, it all is labeled on the board.

as for the SATA connector, yes, you will just plug that into an empty sata port where your hard drives are plugged in.

lookin good so far...!!!

my second vid cards comes in today for mine... can't wait!!!

Thanks for the comments guys! :hi:

So I think it's all wired up now. I'm going to wait till after the weekend to fire it up...sunds dumb i know but i wont have time to pay attention to it this weekend. :booo:

On with the pics: It kinda looks like a cluster-fawk, but I'm open to suggestions. :redneck:
IMG_9302.jpg

Just seems like a lot of extra cabling that was bugging the crap out of me.
IMG_9294.jpg

IMG_9297.jpg

Tried to tidy up the fan speed switches/wiring.
IMG_9298.jpg

Again, seems like too much cable. But I made the most of it. I'm hoping some one has a suggestion for this area, seems a bit messy. This is a fine example of why i suck at wiring and hate it so much. :haha:

you PC builders are just as bad as us jeep super-uppers:flipoff:
go mac and never look back:beer:

Looks neat and tidy.

Have you been attending the Crash School of Wiring in your free time?

Remember, if it smokes, we needs to see pictures, but I doubt it will.

Mac users only expect things to work right every time. That's why Mac tech support is so lame.

PC users know something will break. That's why there's money in fixing PCs.

I know. I've worked on both.... Apple users think their stuff is golden...
We'll find out. I just got an iPad....

looking good..

about the only way to rid of the 'extra' coils of wire, say like the SATA cables in your situation would be to order shorter ones so there is not TONS of extra laying around. But, with what you have I think you did a decent job.

That 'extra' cables from the power supplies can be a pain, hence the reason all my systems are now built with modular power supplies and I have not looked back... only need to plug in what you need.

after i get back from Atlanta, I will upload a pic of my system that I stuffed into a mid-tower case...

but I am sure that your system will work out great.

You planning on running Windows 7 -64bit??
