About a year ago we hired on a little person at the office. Overall, he's a good dude, wife, 1yr old, lives with his in laws. But he has absolutely zero drive to learn anything. Myself and two others do the majority of the training in the office and the other two have written him off because he won't retain anything. You can show him how to do something and ten minutes later it's as if he's never seen it before. I'm starting to think that he's had everything handed to him his entire life, so there's no need for him to want to learn anything or do anything for himself.

They've kept him around because he's the office managers grand son in law. So I'd say he's here for good.

How in the hell do you train someone that doesn't want to learn for themselves?

I worked with a guy at Lowe's that if a wee chick came in he would go crazy. He had a midget fetish and would stalk them through the store. **** was hilarious.

I worked with a girl at Toyota who was little person.
She was brilliant, but hilarious. She said you know 1 out of 7 of us are angry.... didn't know I could laugh so much.
A lot of times after walking through plant with her I would sit like catcher because it stretches my lower back, she would stand up and say, oh coming down to my level...

She ended up leaving to pursue a nursing degree, then came back to engineering for defense contractor.

She is super smart and honestly natural funny, she didn't let her height define her.

I'm with Paul, freaking office mascot! molaugh :rolf: If he's in with the boss, you aint getting rid of him, so may as well make it fun.

If you are going to get rid of him, you will have to commit to it....hear me out. Give him as much as you can possibly give him that he can screw up, make it clear that he has been trained to do the tasks, and stand back. He will either sink or swim. I had a lazy under motivated employee that was an absolute brainchild when it came to GM vehicles. Since my fleet at the time was 95% GM I let him be the point of contact for all repairs and maintenance issues and he did great. Once he got to handle that well, I gave him more responsibility. Then he thought because we went to lunch a couple of times a week and I took him to SEMA that I would not recognize he was stealing about $250 a week. He got fired. Wasted talent, but nonetheless he did great for about 7 or 8 months when I loaded him up with stuff to do.
