So We where wheeling a while back when a guy buried his truck to the frame on snow. I was attempting to extract him when my truck bounced the front end a couple of times. Now I have a "weep" at two of the plug welds on the passenger side of the housing. Do I need to cut out all of the old weld or can I get away with burning in some new wire and call it good?

One trick you can do is pull the carrier and the seal. Clean the piss out of the area where the tube/center meet and seal it with rtv or some form of sealer.

The down side of the leak is you might have cracked one of the plug welds or tweeked the center a tad and thats why its leaking.

I would be tempted to burn in new weld. I wouldn't cut the old out (BIG bitch), but clean the CRAP out if it. Needle scaler or better yet sand blaster if you can. Most the plug welds I've looked at close are still full of slag and **** from the original "stick" welding done to burn them in.

Clean it up, pre-heat if you want, burn in a "cap" rosette weld, let it cool slowly to hopefully avoid any possible cracking.

Not and experienced answer, but what *I* would first do if I was concerned about the same situation.

I was thinking the same with the RTV, BUT, I was hoping to not have to pull the diff...

I kinda sorta checked it for straightness and it still in good shape, kinda suprised I tweeked it enough to make it leak though.

Noted about the cleaning, I have a scaler so Ill go that route. I also have a heat blanket so.....

Awaiting more advice, not that these are bad ideas.:cheer:
