Maybe this is a dumb question, but bear with me...

I have a Lincoln SP-170t wirefeed unit with the 4-position voltage adjustment knob. It's basically an entry level 220v welder. I want to swap the 4 position voltage knob for the rheostat style that comes on some of the other models... is it as simple as just getting the right part and swapping it out, or is there more to it that I'm overlooking... some other internal parts on the models that have the rheostat that allows finer control of the voltage?

Also, if it's a simple swap, does anybody know what other model has a rheostat that would swap in with minimal fuss? I'm guessing the SP-175+ is probably pretty similar.

I don't know about swapping it out but I do know that most of the lincolns just run the 4 position voltage switch. All small 220V lincolns I have ever seen run that style. Even alot of the 210's run the pre-set voltage controls. On my 255 it is digital though, maybe you could somehow convert yours over with 255 controlls but I'm sure there is some electronics that would go along with it.

Matt. Craigs got one on loan at his house right now. He's up on birch right now but you may be able to swing by tonight and take a look at it and see whats different and maybe get a part# off of it. If you dont have his # just give me a call.
