Dear Welding Contact Person,
Bibb County Schools has advertised the position of Welding Teacher for next school year. The Welding program is housed at the Career Academy, located at mile marker 94 on Highway 5 in West Blocton. The information related to qualifications is listed below. Applications will be received until Thursday, April 23, 2009.
Qualifications: Preferred â€" AWS Certified Welding Educator credential
OR
AWS Certified Welder credential
Must hold or be eligible for Alabama teaching certificate in Technical Education. The Specialist 1 certificate requires that the applicant:
a. Has passed a State Board of Education approved occupational proficiency examination in the technical education area that is to be taught (see below).
b. Has completed a minimum of 14,000 clock hours (seven years) of full-time work experience in business and industry within the past ten years as a wage earner in the technical area that is to be taught and graduated from high school or completed the equivalent of a high school diploma; OR
c. Graduated from an approved postsecondary career/technical certificate program in the technical area that is to be taught and has 10,000 clock hours (five years) of full-time work experience in business and industry, within the seven years immediately preceding the submission date of the application, in the technical area that is to be taught; OR
d. Graduated from an approved postsecondary career/technical program with a minimum of an associate degree in the technical area that is to be taught and has 6,000 clock hours (three years) of full-time work experience in business and industry, within the seven years immediately preceding the submission date of the application, in the technical area that is to be taught.

As a proficiency examination, the applicant will be required to pass an X-ray qualification test through AWS D1.1 and D1.2 in three (3) of the following processes:
SMAW 3-G uphill progression D1.1
GTAW 3-G uphill progression (steel) D1.1
GTAW 3-G uphill progression (aluminum) D1.2
FCAW 3-G uphill progression D1.1
The tests will be administered at the Bibb County Career Academy and sent to a certifying agency of the Bibb County BOE choosing for X-ray testing. The applicant is responsible for the costs associated with the certification tests.
