Welding on axel C's

Is it a bad idea to weld on the cast part of C's on a axel I'm trying to get all the length for shock mounts as possible and I'm not sure about welding on that part?

they are welded on to the tube, they are weldable cast steel. I preheat, and generally run a brace from the tube, up the C and transition into the mount. It is a big piece of plate but works very well
