So I have have a little ford ranger short track race truck with a 3.0 and I just installed a bed mount fuel cell and inline pump. The pump is mounted about 2.5 feet from the tank level with the bottom of the tank. The tank has a vented tube out the top to a k&n filter.
I installed the pump Friday and took it out and jumped it a few times drove it there and back and it did great. So we got to the track on Saturday and the fuel pump wasn't working, pulled the switch and hard wired it to the battery and nothing. We were sitting there trouble shooting and it fired up, ran for a few minutes then quit. This went on for hours as we tried to get it ready for the next race. Sometimes it would work for a lap and by the end of the day we could only get it to turn on if we left it unplugged for a while. When it first started we could hit the bleeder on the motor and the pump would fire up a little quicker sometimes I could cycle the pump on and off with the switch and it would trip on after a few tries.
So here is my question could it really be a bad "brand new" fuel pump? If not what would other causes be and how do I DDX and fix?
