What OIL??

what oil do you guys run in your transfer case????? I got a 205 and have honestly never messed with the fluid in mine before and think its definetly time before the 4th!!!(the t-case has only 1,000miles on it but still)

Couldn't tell you specifically on 205's, but I know many of us (IH) guys run 50-wt MOTOR OIL in our D20's and D300 (also gear driven cases if you didn't know), as well as (older) manual trannys (t-19's, t-18's, t-98's ect).


IIRC, 50wt Motor Oil and 80-90wt Gear Oil are essentially the same (so I've been told) with nearly identical viscosity's, but the motor oil I have found is more consistently available 'off the shelf'.

Manual will tell you to run several different lubes for different applications of a 205. Even ATF in some of them.....

Yes, a 205 takes standard 90wt gear lube... just like Crash said in the first reply...
