Backstory.. ive got a 96 3.4 4runner high miles.. its had a timing job. I bought it cheap because it had a running issue..

Truck runs great Zero issues till 3500rpm, then random total miss like rev limiter...
Common problem for the truck is when a shop puts a timing belt on they don't properly tighten the harmonic balancer/bottom pulley. Over time this creates play in a keyway and causes the crank sensor to get a dirty signal.. misfire.

So, i take it to a shop. Tell them all this info. He keeps it a few days. says it was just the crank position sensor. Charges me $140 bucks. Not terrible and says hey come get it its ready..
My dad went and picked it up. I get to his house hop in it, fire it up and whala Same missfire stupid condition at 4k rpm instead of 3500... changed a bit, but overall still the same problem.

So now, what to do. Take it back to him and let him continue on diagnasing and hopefully fixing and just pay the next bill, or gripe about teh 100 bucks i payed for a sensor that i likely didn't need...

In short im just pissed. Im ready to drop some coin on this rig and get it trail proper, but im trying to wait until the running issue is sorted.. :indianajones:

1.) Bring it back and say hey it's doing the same thing, you didn't fix it, be stern with him about you already paid him to supposedly fix it and it virtually did not help.

or

2.) Take it to someone else. Maybe a Toyota dealer.

If you're like me, it's worth more money up front to know the problem will get fixed, vs. some shade tree lazy guy that wants a little money and gets out of really fixing the issue.

Or if you're like me, you're ****ed because you took it to a cheap bastard that will refuse to warranty the work. aka, my rear-main seal in White Digger.
Sell it. Make it someone elses problem... but be honest in the sell... I was.

Good luck. And let's do sushi soon!

This! I learned my lesson on buying junk at a bargain. All the headache and $$$ to fix always far outweighs the deal.

We'll so far he won't even respond to my texts or messages... I'm just gonna show up there one evening this week. He will either fix it or give me my money back. What pisses me off is that he said it was fixed and wasn't. He'll if you can't fix it just say so...
