I bought some stuff for my Cherokee from a guy in Michigan. He wanted $120 for everything and I afford him $140 shipped to me. He agrees. I have no clue what it would've have been for the shipping cost. He ships it out this morning and then I got this email from him.

"Hey man, just sent them off UPS. I'll have tracking number for you tonight (they have to email it to me)...but I did not realize you were in Washington...and shipping came to about $70.00 (actually a bit more, but I'm rounding down) so I was wondering if I could get a bit more money from ya...I was asking 120 + shipping, putting final price in that case to 190. We can discuss it, but some more money toward these things would be great...just so I don't take such a huge loss on them."

I'm a nice guy and all and he should have looked into the shipping cost before he agreed on it. What would you do?

Have you checked UPS and did an estimate on your own? Usually, distance doesn't make a huge difference (not $50 at least). It's based more on weight from my experience. Do you know how heavy it is?

I've had this happen to me before buying and selling parts on e-bay.

UPS shipping is EXPENSIVE. I now only ship with the Post Office. But sometimes even that can be steep when the packages are heavy or oversized.

I would pay his shipping cost because he is out the money. Next time you work on a transaction like this, make sure you have a shipping cost before you purchase. You can ask the seller to either use the calculator on the UPS site, or he can take the items to a UPS store/post office and they can tell him what they would be to ship.

It sucks, but think about if the situation were reversed.

I just wanted to add, I sold some control arms and stock TJ coils to a guy on E-bay once, The shipping was $30. He replied to me with "this is a SCAM, I don't want your item" So I just told him to ship them back to me and I would refund all his money. He apologised later after he fount out that he was going to have to pay $30 for him to ship them back to me.

I disagree only because he accepted the offer of $140. I can't count the number of times I have listed a for sale item and someone posts up and says they will give me $$ for it which is far below the asking price. I think it is pretty weak to come and ask for money once you have shipped something. I would want to see proof of the shipping charge before I sent any more money regardless...

i agree in part with both of you. i asked for proof of shipping cost and hes goin to forward it onto me. but he did agree with my offer so why should "I" be out more $$. hes a young kid in college and probably straped for $$.

:haha: :haha: :haha: That's funny.

TJ has a point, if the price was set then he's obligated to follow through and mabye he'll think first next time. On the other hand, if it truly was going to cost more and I still wanted the parts I'd help cover it.

the guy accepted the offer for 140 shipped. that's his own fault for not knowing what shipping charges would be before he agreed to anything.

He is making it sound like he was charged more for shipping becuase he is shipping from Michigan to Washington. UPS would charge the same price to ship from portland to seattle as it would from portland to new york.

split it. give him half of the extra but only if he can prove it costs that much to ship, I think he would be happy with that, and you would be happy too.

Just my .02

good idea. already done that waiting for a response from him.

When you get the items, and they are to your satisfaction, THEN I'd kick him some money back. It was a good deal or you wouldn't have bought them, and he's admitting fault. This is the kind of Karma, that comes around like it goes around.

They DO charge more for shipping by the zone it's in. I send stuff all the time by UPS so I also know they just jacked the rates due to higher fuel costs. (sent an item to AK a year ago for $100. Now they want $300 for the exact same thing!)
The seller may have thought it was Washington AC too! :haha:
