I've had this happen to me before buying and selling parts on e-bay. UPS shipping is EXPENSIVE. I now only ship with the Post Office. But sometimes even that can be steep when the packages are heavy or oversized. I would pay his shipping cost because he is out the money. Next time you work on a transaction like this, make sure you have a shipping cost before you purchase. You can ask the seller to either use the calculator on the UPS site, or he can take the items to a UPS store/post office and they can tell him what they would be to ship. It sucks, but think about if the situation were reversed.
