So, I have a 22RE that is literally still sitting at the machine shop ready to be picked up that I was going to rebuild and put into my 88 4Runner in place of the 3.0. However, lately I have been heavily thinking about putting a 3.4 liter in it instead.

So, my question is, what would you pay for a 22RE thats fully machined and ready to go with all the parts? AND, if you were going to buy it, would you want it assembled with photos documenting the assembly with bearing clearances, etc, or would you want it disassembled so you can put it together yourself?

Im still not sure I even want to sell it, but Im just trying to find out what it might be worth. I also have the entire engine harness, ECU, the entire truck body harness, etc. I literally have every harness out of the donor truck complete, uncut, and labled. I also have the complete intake, fuel tank, etc to go with it.

All the parts you have listed, $700- $900. Everyone is going to have different opinion, just put it up for sale assembled and gather your receipts.

It also depends alot on what brand of parts you are using and who's putting it together. I'd rather have a 22RE from Toyota that had 100,000 plus miles on it if it had been taken care of that most any rebuilt one. I've seen way to many rebuilt ones that are tits up after 30,000 because of cheap parts or the person that put it together. No one builds them like Toyota does.

Well, the last one I put together I used quality parts, all the way down to OEM Toyota brand FIPG and everything, but I understand about the whole OEM quality thing. Im pretty meticulous when it comes to these things, which is also why I mentioned documenting the build (bearing clearances, various stages of assembly, etc). All my rebuild parts also are coming from Ted at engine builder, except the head gasket which will be OEM, along with the timing chain tensioner, but the rails are steel backed.

I dunno, I might use the thing since I cant find a decent ($1000 or so) 3.4 liter with everything I need, but I don't really want to put all the extra work into the 22RE swap when the 3.4 "bolts in" and can be "plug and play" with more power but similar mileage.

Yeah, spend the extra $$$ and get a 3.4L in there. Arn't the motor mounts and bellhousing bolt pattern the same as the 3.0L....?

Yup. And, with an ORS harness, its plug and play. Just gotta build exhaust, swap the oil pans over and some other crap.

It doesn't sound like this is something you need to get running right away.? Be patient and you'll find a 3.4 for a good price.
It is going to cost you more to get a 3.4 up and running in that 4runner but i think you'll be happier going this route...

Your not going to get top dollar unless assemble by reputable shop with warrantee. Alot can go wrong. The thing may start up and run but burn out in 10-30k miles. I dont usually trust a rebuild till at least 20k.
