I built my own shafts using .188 wall DOM and new 1410 Spicer parts. I broke both ends of the front drive shaft at once like the OP's photos and I think it started by losing a u-joint retainer clip and cap after it came down on a rock. I almost lost another on the replacement shaft before I put 4 heavy spot welds on each retainer clip to the yoke at the differential end and it is holding up fine. If I need to change a u-joint I will just replace the weld yoke at the same time. They are cheap.
