****, I was burning stuff earlier today on the table, just got another 5x10 on it this morning. I drew a bunch last night and most of the morning, lots of hours in CAD. I hadn't saved to my jump drive in a while, and had just been saving to the hard drive. you can imagine how hard all the plasma dust and elements in my shop are on computers I'm sure. I had gone back in to work on the tj on the lift, when I came to get the welder over in the table bay. all I hear is this horrible screeching snapping sound. I walk up and its coming from the computer, and the screen is flashing. OH ****. I look at all my lights and see the cpu is still going, and in a panic jerk the cord on the monitor. sound quits. Okay, maybe I'm ok. I went and got another monitor and hooked it up, screen comes back up. I was so fawking relieved. I didn't want to throw away 15ish hours of CAD for a do over laughing1 Saved immediately laughing1

Let me know if youor monitor heads south as I usually have a cuple of old school Fred Flintstone looking ones up stairs in storage. We have changed some to flat screens. Might do ya in a pinch. :dunno:

type in preferences, files tab, auto save location and set that, then in the same window, go to open & save tab, toggle on auto save and set it for 15 minutes. It's not a fail safe and does not always work, but it CAN save your ass.

I didn't know if a spike from some crazy burn table **** could fawk my thumb drive up so I've been keeping it on the desk, adn put it in to save, then take it out. think that is a possibility?

Greg, thanks for the offer, but cashtalks had given me this monsterous like 20ish" monitor with a flat screen and it has been sitting for quite a while. just hooked it up. it takes up my whole table and I have to have the monitor in my lap laughing1

Doubt it. CAD is quirky sometimes. With the environment that 'puter is in, I'd try to at least shut it down at night and throw a cover over it.

I used to work in a smoking office and man did that do hell on a computers internals.

I shut it down and turn the breaker off if its stormy or freezing (the fan still runs when its shut down). I might leave that thumb drive in there all the time then.

the control station that has the brain for the CNC table has a spot for a CPU in it. the CNC comp is fixed to the table, and the button for shutoff and Estop are integrated. then you run those very short cables to the serial port on your comp. I would have to gut the table to make the CNC stuff go to a cabinet and have enough length, or make some longer serial port wires and wire them in. Most of the control wires aren't long enough as it it, the comp should be at the end of the table, not on the side. Oh well, it works well enough until I get in my new shop and make it a wet table so there is no smoke and dust.

oh, duh, and with the CPU in the little desk that it goes in, there is no way to seal it off without crazy hours of work. the thing is an open type deal. No good way to seal it and still have doors. doors on it are like on your entertainment center, a magnet glued to each with a spring and a 1" gap all the way around it.

How about cutting a hole in one side and slide an AC filter into place. Put a small fan pulling out on the other side. Air should come in the filter as it will be less restriction than around the doors.
