which trans?

Got a friend that has a TBI 350 ,Th350 , 205 case he is wanting to go to 4 speed with a low 1st. which trans would be the easiest swap?

No way I would make that swap. Keep the auto way better with a v8.

I second that, Automatic is much safer in the woods. When you get in a very hairy situation a straight drive can be dangerous.

I'm getting ready to try my first auto in the woods. I have always ran a straight. I think that it will be like starting all over again. To each,his own is what I'm saying. I know some around here that still run a NP465/205.

i personally have ran a auto for a long time and changed to a manual about 4 years ago, and didnt care for it at first. i changed to a 4 to 1 in the case and now would never go back to a auto.

Now to clarify a little, we like the slower trail crawling/back up and bump it style riding.

He is looking for something with a low first gear to replace the TH350

Daren I believe you can put a lower first gear in a turbo 350, no way would I go to a stick shift.

Thanks Kevin, we will look into that. He just trying to see what his options are with his setup. Lower 1st in that trans and a low-max might be the way to go. He is geared 513's already

they don't make the lomax for a 205 anymore. you will have to go with an atlas
