High fuel prices will be the key to their success imo. When gas was $4+, people were chomping at the bit to buy a shitbox metro, and hyper-miling was fun/cool. We even had dealers for those crappy looking zap electric cars pop up, and they were selling.I drive ~75 miles round trip for work every day and I'd sure as hell be on the list for 1 if prices went back up like that. For now my VW polluter wagon gets it done at around 40mpg.
