I have a rubicon unlimited with rcvs up front. I am running 37 in mtrs and just lost a tire to a sharp stump. This guy I know has a set of 40 in mtrs for 500 and I keep thinking I want to run them. But I don't want to start breaking stuff. I crawl mostly. May spin my tires from time to time. I don't bounce my rig. But it is heavy. I have 5.38s and a supercharger.

Verdict?

Re:

Dependent on the axle, rcvs are strong. Id bet you'd kill a r&p before axle shaft.

If you had a 2 door then I might say it would hold up but with a 4 door, it is a recipe for disaster.

Thats what I was afraid of. But i want to LOL but i dont want to be replacing other parts. Guess I will wait till I have some beef axles

just run them and wheel smart.

I ran 37s on a chromo'd D44 (not rcv's) and stock 9" with a 6,000# rig. no issues.

be smart about binding up a tire and make sure any tire spin is smooth and you'll be fine. is it pushing the limits, yes. can you wheel like that and have fun, yes.

Take your panties off and run the 40s

500 is an awesome deal for 40 mtrs especially of they are good cond. and are old design.

Do it, I run 39.5 tsl on a Dana 44 and 9in under my Cherokee, stock axles with Spicer joints. I haven't had problems out of it, I just take it easy on it. Don't get me wrong I'd love to he a 60 front and 14bolt rear but I have fun with it the way it is.

But remember he is running a new 4 door meat wagon. Those damn things are heavy as ****. Buddy of mine in our club is running a HP60 and 14bolt, he finally got the message after he ripped through the JK 30 that was built to the max and a 44 that was built. The extra weight of the rig and the height you are going to have to get your rig so you can get good flex (unless you plan to narrow the front and rear of the body) puts a lot of extra stress on those axles especially when your are running big meats.

that's why I included the weight of mine so he knows. it was actually closer to 6300# at that time thumb.gif
