Can I use a hawse fairlead with wire cable or are they only designed to be used with rope?

You can you the hawse but make sure it is the steel one as the aluminum farilead will just getted raped the 1st time you use it.

Yep, before I took my winch off I had a steel hawse style one with cable, no problems.

In my opinion they are better since they take up less room, wont bend and twist like a roller will and wont wear out (bushings) and screw ya. KISS is a good theory too.

hawse fairlead is just a solid opening a one piece unit. roller has 4 rollers top,bottom 2 sides
