Have any of you guys ever removed the handheld type switch that comes with most winches, and wired in a dash mounted rocker/toggle type switch? If so what type switch, what was the amp rating for the switch, and where did you purchase it?

Thanks!

yeah, nothin to it, use your remote(toggle in and out) to find the two excite wires to control the winch in and out. get a three way momentary rocker switch (12 volt guy has some nice ones)

its worth it for sure, makes winching a lot faster

I use a carling momentary type swithc for mine, it was super easy to do and I always have the winch at my fingers

I have done the same a few times with good luck.. Just make sure you put it on a power source you can shut off when you transport your rig..We had one go into reverse due to a bad switch we received from the supplier. It turned our winch on in reverse....From what we can tell we were in Montgomery on our way to GR and had a mess when we pulled into the park. I am surprised it didn't start an electrical fire while it was on the trailer!! ;D

Thanks guys I'm gonna order one of the switches from the 12v guy it has an on/off switch with an in/out toggle switch. Now just to get my buggy from the builder so I can install all my goodies.

Wouldn't a master on/off switch take care of this?

I used a standard ON-OFF switch to supply power to a ON-OFF-ON switch on my dash.
pulled power from a distribution block I've got up under the dash which also run all my lights & stereo, then came of the "ON's" of the 2nd switch with some decent speaker wire to my winch solenoids

Flip 1st switch to power the 2nd. I can also still plug in my handheld controller to the face of the winch

green wire on solenoid is winch in and black is winch out. you will have to run a ground to the brown wire on the solenoid to complete the circuit

Has any one wired a switch up to a Warn 9.0Rc . I cant figure it out with 5 wires ?

im going to tonight, do you have the book that came with it? I believe I saw a wiring diagram in the owners manual last night

if you dont have one, simply get a test light and see which wire is hot when you hit the controller in...mark the wire, then do the same for out. you power source can come from anywhere

yea i have the book to it , and have look at it be for on doing this but It all looks Chinese to me . Ill try the volt meter on it and see what happens .

Yes. Where are there 5 wires through?

You can mount the Solenoid just about anywhere especially if you ditch all of the crap its mounted in. On the Solenoid there are three blades. Effectively a forward, neutral and reverse.

I wired them up to an On-Off-On toggle switch.

Or maybe I just had a oddball solenoid. Sorry dont have the solenoid number Daniel should have it though as I had to replace it once from him.

In this pic the three blades are on the bottom of the solenoid. And you can see the Blue middle connector is the ground that I attached to a screw on the top of the chassis mount for the solenoid.
