I need new glass and can't get a new shield for $130 or so installed. My question is are there alternatives to glass? Maybe something that is lighter and will not break as easy? I don't want to spend a fortune on a winshield, but if it is reasonable I would like to hear about other options. Plexiglass scratches easily so that is not good, I have heard about speed glass and maybe also polycarb?

A buddy of mine owns his own auto glass company, he might be able to hook you up with a new windshield pretty cheap if ya want regular glass back in it or he can have it cut, tinted smoke or a grey color I think...just throwin that out there..I give ya his number if your are interested.

Just let me know...I had him cut mine out last weekend and he said he had a regular TJ one sittin in his basement thats when we got to talking about the smoked or gray.

I am confused, does he just do regular glass work or will he also cut lexan/speed glass and install it?

Sorry I meant cut my windshield out of my old frame because someone had urethaned the stew out of it. He usually only works with glass but one of his distributors will cut him flat glass. I will call him tomorrow and ask what else he can get cut and find out what types of material he can get cut. He did say he was going to cut a windshield for his buggy out of something, but I forgot what he said it was. Any way I will check tomorrow and post up tomorrow evening when I get home.

I checked and my buddy can't get a good deal on lexan. He has to buy a whole 4x8 sheet which is around $95 and to do one windshield its too costly. He did say he can get a better deal on the laminate (regular windshield glass) either already tinted or regular. If you want to talk to him just let me know I will give you his number.

ask Keith @ ORC he used speed glass on his buggy. he has a guy he gets it from, not sure who though. i am gonna get a sheet from him when i redo my windshield.

You should be able to order speed glass right out of quadratec specially made for a tj
saw it in there mag. kinda of exspensive though I think it was 329.00 for a tj

I am a 2x4 sheet from Pro Glass is $80 + $25 to cut to a template. Joe and I got a template yesterday so it is being mailed to them today.

Even with the new Pro Glass in, do you still plan on wheeling with your windshield? I want to remove mine when on the trail but I have heard that seperating the hinges on a TJ is not an easy task and most people just unbolt the hinges from the body to remove it. Have you figured out a way to seperate the hinges so you can install a removable bolt?

I will only leave the frame in when cold or if I have to put in a good amount of street time to get to the trail. I know what it takes to make the bolt removable, but it is a lot of work. I just unbolt it from the hinge

Keith did mine. I have not added the quick release pin, so I just have a bolt right now.
