As it says above. It is setup for a SAS conversion. Anyone have one and how much did you pay for it?

Scout 44's are really not very desirable due to their oddball outer's, they are scout only. Also a scout 44 take's a small u joint as far as I know.

Ummm maybe in the circle you travel with but their still a very popular upgrade for those who dont need to run a 40" tire. and want to go a little wider than a stock jeep. their are a lot of us (Myself incl) that use the scout outers due to their stoutness(sp)

Define "small u-joint"

They take the standard D44 sized 297X or whatever it is.

The outers are a little unique, but as Pokey said, pretty strong for what they are. And they are always upgradable (Ford outers, standard 19-spline shafts, high-steer knuckles).

If its the width you want, as saves you some hassle, nothing wrong with it. They are a SUA axle, so for a SAS I'm assuming you want to go SOA so you will need to convert it. I don't know what your putting this under, so I can't comment one whether or not its a good swap canitite.

$250 as Pokey said is a good 'fair' price. I've seen them go for more, and I've seen them go for less. As for avaliablilty... I *might* have one.... I'll have to check. I have one under a truck right now thats going to be pulled apart, but I don't know when or if I want to save it (not sure what for, but I am a pack-rat). If I get to my racer upgrades it's front will be coming out, but that is more like this winter (If I'm lucky).

i was under the assumption that the older scout stuff used the smaller u joint (dana 30). Though I have been wrong before.

i have bought severall 44s from wrecking yards. never pay more than $250 complete if they wont take that or less walk away. i use alot of waggoneer fronts most have 3.54 gears.so youll need a 4.10 carrier for gears. and all these SUA axles have poor balljoint-diff angle and should be rotated. but if you are using it in a toyota then the waggy fronts rock, they come with all chevy outers-6 lug like toyota and chev disc brakes and fullsize hubs. scout axles are JUNK- the outers eat hubs and the stubs are junk too plus the steering arms are so long it will fawk up your steering radius (long arm slows it down) plus the axle tubes are wussy. waggy **** is always in the pullapart yards for $150 or less complete and pullapart will sell you shafts for like $22 you just have to beat the jeep racers to them. the jeep racers will strip those axles as soon as they see them. ps waggy fronts have the draglink pickup on the tierod under the spring so with a 1" spacer on the front spring pack the draglink wont hit the springs and you can eliminate the need for hysteer if the truck is not very big-that saves alot of money. if its a toyota your working on save some money and go toyota axle and youll save alot of money in the long run and be happier with it. u joints SUCK.:awesomework:

4:88 gears, detroit locker, warn premium hubs, high steer, alloy axels, disc brakes and stronger than stock u-joints (ox) plus plenty of extra parts.
want $700.00

Thanks guys, it is in a incompleate SAS in 87 toy. Wondered the price because if I buy the truck the axle would get sold.

Ditto...must have issues...

I don't have any problems with the externals...

his scout makes a habit out of killing hubs. if he comes down hard with power on the inner hub gear machines out the outer hub body and makes six little windows. one day he killed two at the same time. ive never been a fan of bolt on style hubs, like old jeeps, scouts, old fullsizes, etc. ive never killed a slide in hub, like the outers people use off ford trucks. plus the stub axle is bigger. the only bolt on bubs i like are toyota hubs cuz they have the cone washers, and as long as there tight they hold good.

Well for the price and effort of killing so many external locks, he could have switched over to ford Hub/Rotor LOOONG ago.

But hey, if he likes changing hubs. He's also the only person I have heard of doing that (on obviously a regular basis). Most of the times the outer hub body just breaks.
