I know this has been hashed a few times but I think there are some fist-time powder coaters out there that have had some ride-time on their rigs who may have new input.

I've got the buggy on a trailer ready to go get blasted. The plan was originally to paint it myself but I'm just running out of time and patience to do that. I don't trust anyone locally to paint it for me so my other option is powder coat.

I'm aware of the touch-up issues that come with PC. What I haven't paid much attention to on the trails though is how color-matched paint touched up over PC looks.

I appreciate any input. I'm leaving to get quotes in about an hour.

My thoughts exactly!
however, I have seen decent up close PC/paint touch ups but it was hammerite type finish.

Anxious to see your rig done JJ :****:

I built mine and wanted a really nice finish and that is what i got . But . After a few rides and wanting to change or fix somthing i will paint the next one . I have learned that if you are having fun these rides are hatin life :woot: :woot:

I decided to paint it instead as I always want to do touch-ups and modifications. But yes, its at the paint shop now. Should have it back early next week.

good call.

powder has its place. I.e panels, pieces bolt ons like seat assemblies or cooler racks. But I would never powder a chassis for the very reason of fixing, welding adding subtraction parts and pieces from it. And welding on a powder chassis even after grinding all of the powder off sucks its just everywhere and wrecks good welds. My $0.02

Powder holds up much better, cost more, looks better. Powder has a color code like paint and most paint shops can match. When painting it is hard to keep a wet edge and it will def have over spray and dry spots. Dont know what you wont to pay but you can get a good job done for around $1500.00 wich includes blast, prime, and color. It all depends on what you wont to pay and how good you wont it to look.

If you use a good enough painter you won't end up with overspray or dry spots, powder is great but as said before it sucks if you have to go back and fix anything.

I powder coated my buggy and would do it again. I went with semi-gloss black because it is easy to match for touch up. I can get touch up paint in a rattle can from Walmart. Just smooth the scraped tube with a flapper wheel and paint it. It costed me $600 for sandblast and powder coat on my chassis. Don't think I could have gotten it blasted and painted for that.
