I am swapping my sbc over to serpentine pulley setup cause I cant stand my squeaky v belts. I ordered a new reverse rotation water pump. The pump supports higher hp and has a slightly larger housing. The speed shop said I would need spacers to clear the timing cover and sold me 75 dollars worth of spacers. I got the kit yesterday and bolted it up without the spacer and it just kisses the timing cover. A gentle tap on the timing cover and it would clear. So I ask those with more engine experience than I. Can I put a ding in the timing cover and run the pump without the spacers. It really doesn't have much to do with cost besides being a waste if I dont need it, but it is also less seals and parts etc....

So would you just run the spacers or would you dent the timing cover a tad and run it?

Also this was without the paper gasket. I dont know how much clearance that would give... But its close..

As long as the pump is snug to the block belt alignment will be perfect. They sold me a 1/4 in spacer for the pump and crank pulley then I have to spacer the alternator and power steering pump...

Leave them off , if your talking about a small dimple in the cover I would do it. Sure would be a lot trouble to shim them accessories out.
