So i bought a dual case xmember on craigslist last year and finally got around to putting in my dual cases in my 86 4runner. Once I got it bolted the xfer cases to the plate I noticed the plate holes dont line up with the frame ones. So I am assuming I got the wrong xmember. The guy said it was for a 4 cyl. but I noticed trail gear has one for a 79-83 4cyl one for a 84-95 4 cyl and then one for the V6. Does anyone have a guess what one mine might be? It would have to be one where the transfer case xmember is further back on the truck than the 84-95 cyl one.

I put the factory one back on for the time being. Does anyone know if this will be OK to use with only the front case mounted until I buy the correct one?

Your crossmember is most likely for a 79-83 with the shorter tranny.

You can use your crossmember if you get some square ubolts like the kind toyota uses stock, but a little longer.

Put the ubolts "U" over the frame and the threads into the slots/holes in the crossmember and then bolt it up and cut off the excess threads sticking out of the nuts.

I guess the ubolts probably would work. I think Ill just sell it though and get the right one. After you mentioned the 79-83 has a shorter tranny that makes sence its probably for those.
