WUD-Father's Day/Little Naches Run Report

I towed my XJ up behind my RV. I pull into the Saw Mill Flats camp ground on Friday around noon. We set up camp and waited for the others to show up. Somewhere around 3:30 PM Camo22 pulled in and then Top wasn't far behind him. Test Dummy and Tiny camp up a little latter. Some time after dark Dean pulled in. Yeti came up on Saturday morning and then we headed out for the trails.

We got out onto Highway 410 and ran it to 1702. We went up 1702, then 1720 and then up 1701 to the Top of Manastash Ridge.

We aired down and hit the Manastash Crest trail (694) toward Funny Rocks.
This is a nice tight trail. We stopped for a view of Manastash Lake.

We headed on up the trail to Funny Rocks. We drove down around the rocks to the bottom.
Camo22 popped a bead. Well more like dismounted the front tire.

It was time to play on the Funny Rocks.

After a little playing around on the Funny Rocks we headed on over to Moon Rocks by taking trail 695.

After playing on the Moon Rocks awhile we continued on down 695 to 1701 and then ran 644 across Bald Mountain. I lost the trail and we had to turn around twice. Top spotted where the trail turned off it's self. The last part of 644 was down hill and had snow on it in places. It was fun getting my low rider over the snow mounds. We finely got onto 694 and ran it to 686. 686 was a steep rocky trail down. We pulled off here to let some Jeeps go by. A great time for a picture!

We headed on down to 685. This it were we had our stuck fest. The trail split into two trails with mud holes. I took the way we went last year. That wasn't the best idea I have ever had. I was working getting though the first mud hole and Top drove around me. I got up out of the hole just to fall into another.

Top pulled me out and then drove into the next hole and stuck his locked up TJ. I tried a different way so I wouldn't get stuck in his holes. Another bad idea! I was stuck again.

Dean winched me out and then had to winch me out of the next hole. I got stuck three times within 100 feet or less.

On the other trail there were some big holes.

After everyone was through the mud mess we headed back to camp. We ran 1708 out to Highway 410. We ran back to Saw Mill Flats on our aired down tires. I had forgotten how far the drive was. I am glad there weren't too many corners.

Back at camp we had dinner and a few beers around the fire. The next morning Camo22, Dean and Top headed back home. They had a long drive ahead of them. Yeti, Tiny, Test Dummy and I head up to Little Bald Mountain.

It is a lot of fun. Some of the trails still have snow on them and some have mud holes. It was a lot different wheelin' there a year ago. It was a lot dryer.

Very cool guys--looks like alot of fun. How bad does the resource damage look over there with the snow gone?

Awesome Ceg. Keep a look out on the tamers site for our fathers day writeup. I'm gonna have to convice them to come out on a run with you guys sometime.

The only thing that I noticed that was real screwed up was 685 near 1708. I don't remember the deep holes that are there now. Then again it was dry and dark when we went through there a year ago so maybe they were there.

Cool. We are always looking for people to wheel with. We are not as crazy as some of the Timber Tamers are so no high trail Rimrock snow wheelin' for us. I saw last years Timber Tamers Memorial Day clip. Just nuts!

We are hoping to do a few more runs in the Little Naches Area this summer. The only run that is planned right now is for July 15th. We will be running across Naches Pass to the west and back. We will be camped somewhere off NF19. Here is more info on the WUD - Naches Wagon Trail Run: http://cegranch.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=101 Everyone is welcome.

Your guys rigs are built much than ours but it would be great to wheel with you guys.

WOW trail 685 looks like crap, i remember when alot of people used to tow to that point, unload then hit the rocks(only about 6 years ago) doesnt look like that can happen any more.
did you guys run 676, or around tripod? hoe does it look(did anyone ask yet?)

We ran out of time to make it over that way. One guy I talk to up there said 676 was a mess. I am going to let it dry up more before going back up in that area. There is a lot of water on the trails and deep snow in some of the shaded areas.

WUD - Father's Day run part 2 (Sunday's run)

Yeti, Tiny, Test Dummy and I left our camp at Saw Mill flats and run up 1600 toward Little Bald Mountain. We stopped for a nature call where 1706 came onto 1600.

After a quick break we headed on up to Little Bald Mountain.

The view was great. On the way back down we decide to see if we could get to Clover Springs. We when up 696 a few miles crossing patches of snow. We came to some up hill snow climbs.
2006-06-18-03.jpg

The snow was soft in places but we pressed on until Yeti got stuck.

Test Dummy pulled Yeti back out of the holes in the snow.

I had a long walk back up to my rig. I parked where I could get going again.

Yeti said he had enough of the snow wheelin' so we headed back down the mountain. At 1706, we decided to run down a few miles to check it out. 620 looked like a good trail to go up so we did.

The trail didn't go very far. It stopped at a log frame.

After looking around we headed back to Saw Mill Flats. Tiny and Test Dummy had to show us a hill climb that was near our camp. I followed Tiny up this steep climb and then ran back down a little ways to take some pics of this awesome hill climb.

Well that was fun.

We went back to camp to load up for home. This Father's Day run was great. I am glad I got to wheel with some cool people. Who wants to go next year?
