I finally mounted the bling aluminum box on the front of my trailer this weekend, took it to JRich's house so his dad's buddy could make a key for it ( I got it freebie with no keybie ) so it would be all legit like. Anyway, his old man has a 5sumthing all original truck and we got to BS'n as one would expect. He also over in the weeds had a trailer with an old Dodge bed on it and low and behold the axle under it is an old ass I beam frontend like what Id need for the front of my project ! So we "think" its from an old Dodge and its a 6lug pattern ( same as his old Chevy 3100 )

Is this a good candidate axle for the front of the Rusty Mistake ? He and I already discussed arrangments so its mine if I want it. I was thinking with my limited research I could use this, swap outters on it for disc brakes and 5 lug pattern ( hopefully to match the rear 9" ) and be straight on my axle situation.

What do I need to look at or consider in this ? I ask you cause I know you will have that knowledge in that big ol melon of yours ! You got a pallet of pea's son ! :afro:

Oh yea, re-affirmed last night that the 383 was a "go" for this project with the old man. We are Green light go on parts procurment ! thumb.gif

This thing is going to haul some serious ass loller.gif

Warehouse of peas!

Man I have no idea. Why not take that chassis and build your junk on it? If its Dodge and '50s it should have a parallel front leaf spring. Building a fenderless rod with parallel springs would be tough to get low enough. There are tons of cool vintage wheels out there in a 6 lug. GM ran 6 lug for years early on. And no one wants them because Ford is the sought after pattern.

The frontend is under a "trailer" , its the bed of an old Dodge truck and someone stuck a frontend under it for some crazy ass reason. laughing1

Chassis is going to be P buit, Ive already decided that much, I dont see me spending the $$ it would take to run fenders hood and all that business so this thing is going to be silly ratted out. I am going to coilover each corner , like I said, it will be easy to set it up low and should be able to get it to ride real nice down the highway ( and haulin ass...)

What can I do rearend wise if I just keep this thing 6lug up front ? Can I disc the 6 lug ?

with the straight axle could make a gasser out of it

P, are there any small race shops around you that sells used race parts? I know the local one here usually has a pile of old small coilovers and springs, might be pretty dirty, but could be cleaned up....just an idea for ya, I know you like free or cheap! :flipgotcha:

you know when times come to purchase C/O's Ill be on the hunt for the cheapest **** I can get. I may have to hit up my dads buddy Steve back in P town and scrounge freebie old **** from him. He has more **** than any person I know. laughing1

i have an old ford i beam axle . not certain of the application but it is 50" kingpin to kingpin. i suspect that is from an old aa truck. also have a set of gm type disc brake setups you may could salvage and use. i even got some old springs and radius rods so you basically got your front end!

was goin to throw it on my neighbors scrap run yesterday, i guess you are in luck.

pm me i will tell you how to come get it. i am near danny's place in somerville.

Right on, Wyatt, your the pro is this something that would work for me ? Be alot easier to snag this then taking the un known straight axle outta that trailer and putting something else under it !

Thanks for the offer... ( danny's place ? Sorry I dont know what or were your referring too )

danny euto. koth . somerville alabama usa 35670 . just let me know if you think it would work for you.

it will absolutely work. not sure on the axle with a 50" KP to KP. 1937-41 Fords were 50 7/8" though, maybe it? thats off the top of my head, I'll look tomorrow and see if I can find a 50" Kp-Kp and get you lined out
