Looking at picking one up this weekend. 4wheelparts has them for 299 with free shipping. I know they have one of the fastest line speeds and largest 8k motors but how have they done out on the trail?

From what I've seen and heard, they work awesome and I've heard no complaints! Of course, I don't have any personal experience with one, but I plan on getting one for my 4Runner.

ok, 2nd hand experience is good too. I'm just kind of wondering if their too good to be true, since most used m8000 are more $$$ then them...

I read a bunch of stuff on them on Pirate when they first came out and I was impressed with what a lot of people had to say, especially one guy in particular who knew a LOT about the technical aspects of different winches. I think a lot of the time with Warn, you're paying for a name. Don't get me wrong, Warns are great winches and have proven themselves over the years, but I think that part of the reason for the low price of the xrc8 is to compete with Warn. A lot of people will buy a Warn simply because it's a Warn. For Smittybilt to compete, they have to offer it at a lower price, because if it was the same price as the Warn, most would choose the Warn. My long winded .02

I have installed lots of them. While others will chime in and tell you to waste/spend 1000 bucks on a warn or nothing.

I have used, installed, own, and borrow one.

I have a milemarker on my truck and it is the slowest **** around, I am constantly getting my room mate to spool his Smittybuilt out to save some time.

I have not seen an under 600 dollar winch out perform these smittys.

They are comparable to a tmaxx, but cheaper.

Do NOT manhandle the spool out/engage lever

I have seen two of them broken and not able to free spool out (power out is still faster than using my milemarker).

Both people I know with broken handles are cavemen. They will beat on **** when it isnt going their way. If the handle doesnt want to engage, then turn the drum a few clicks by hand till it catches the cogs and turns in.

Thats the only drawback I have found. You dont just shove gears in with your tcasem, do ya? Dont do it with a $299 winch and it will work for years to come.

I was told by some "in the knows" that it will be going up to $500 after the first of the year.

Thanks for all of the reply's guys, and thank you ChopShop for your imput, luckily I tend to be a pretty cool headed thinker... Shoving/bashing things into working isn't my style.

I guess I will grab one of these and start looking for a new winch bumper. :awesomework:

I had to help a guy with his Smitty winch at Liberty during Labor Day weekend and the only negative comment I have is that it was brutally slow.

must have been an old one or on too big of a rig. XRC8 is pretty damn quick.

37ft per min unloaded
10ft per min at max capacity.

The winch was less than 6 months old on a nearly stock TJ. Other people had to winch from the same spot so we got to see other winches work too. This was, by far, the slowest.
Hey, if you want a winch and only have $300, buy it. But don't expect it to perform like some high quality winch.

I have yet to see any problems with this winch other than it is SLOW!!!

That rated speed is one I would love to see some real world numbers:awesomework:

I have had one for about a year out of the box it works fine but is slow as **** good for the price but nothing to brag about

4WP will sell you a lifetime warranty with it for $30-60 more. ive used the warranty once now out of three winches bought. this one winch just quit working, no reason. A call to 4WP, and we picked up a brand new one from their renton store the same day. kept the controller and stuff from the old one, so now we got extra parts:redneck:
also, it seems like some of them are hard to move the shift lever, while others practically move in and out with the breeze. i think chop shop's right on not forcing the hard ones.
i think one downfall may be power consumption. they need a lot of power to go good. new battery, bigger the better, strong alternator, and check your electical connections once in a while to make sure theyre goodand tight.
you get what you pay for, if you cant tell from its charming looks, you'll know it the first time you here that chineses motor a-spoolin:D
they pull decent though. if i saw one pullin slower than an M8, i would wonder what they did wrong.
theirs my .03.
your welcome:beer::beer:

Thanks again to everyone. I guess factory pull rates are like Automakers MPG ratings.... I could care less if it's slow. I will more then likely use it once in a while but not much. More or less its the "oh ****" back up plan. :redneck:

I've had one on the front of my heep for just under a year and have had the brake fail and lock the winch up and now have a solenoid that has failed to deal with. The few other people I know running them are happy with them and think I am going to gamble on it again and buy another one for the buggy.

I've seen 'em working, and other than a bad connection in the controller (which got fixed by running in-cab controls!); and a noisy gearbox (which got warrantied), it has never failed...---and as for line speed, it is DEFINITELY faster than my MM 8K on the front of my rig:redneck:....
Duck Dodgers is the fellow whom I am speaking of that has it, and he will tell you it's pulled a few Yota's out of the muck!!!:redneck::fawkdancesmiley:
