I want to get one of those Derale-type coolers for the PS on my rig. Any recommendation on a good shop/place/online to get one?

PSC has them for $78-$90 depending on size and configuration:

Can I do better? I'm willing to pay that, but always looking to save a couple bucks in the right direction.

Anyone local have a good hook up on them?

Question 2:
Singe pass or double pass? I think most people use/used the single pass in as there were the most common, however the double pass is intriguing just to make layout and plumbing easier (both lines come out of one side vs "in line"). Is there any difference in cooling, performance or capacity? Is it worth the extra $$

I'd go double pass...i'll be useing two plate coolers with electric fans on the X-Toy one for the steering and one for the tranny..:awesomework:

Just me but Im not sold on that style cooler. Not enough surface area for the amount of juice going thru it.

Just tho and Im no scientist, just my theroy

Ditto.

I've used this style in the past, will never use one again as a primary cooler.

Been running a tranny cooler (plate) with fan for years with much better results.

I use that style but only because I have very limited space to mount it with no fan.The double pass with fins would cool better but I've had no over heat issues with the Derail cooler.

from what i hear, Thats the style that psc sells with their full hydro kits. I personally think this is like a toyota/jeep arguement. Whatever works, use it.

If you do end up buying this style of cooler and have a IR thermometer please go wheelin or do some hot laps and cycle the steering as much as you can then jump out and take a test on the inlet and outlet of this cooler.

My money says that you dont get more then a 2-3* drop, maybe 4-5* if you have a fan blowing on it. This is just a guess as it could be lower then that.

I would put this style of cooler on my fuel system, reason for this is my fuel does not really NEED to be cooled. Then again some guys dont cycle the steering enough to need to cool PS either. Really depends on what you use your rig for and the specs of your rig. Realisticly some PS systems dont even need a cooler at all. Its when you over work the pump and it goes into bypass mode is when you need a cooler.

I think it is all about location and application
How much fluid is in the system.
line location and length
driving habits

I know it took over a quart of fluid to fill the thing, the more fluid you got the cooler it will be.PSC is into the hard core **** and if it works for them it will work for a lot of other rigs too.
